Just few minutes outside of Rome, in an hilly region called Castelli Romani there is one of the most ancient wine production area of Italy.
This area, with Castel Gandolfo volcanic lake in the centre, has been the hydric reservoir of the ancient Rome and then, due to the good weather, the summer residence of the Popes.
The artistic and historical heritage is massive. Roman ruins, churches and noble’s palaces and villas are everywhere.

Because the urbanization and a shift to quantity production, the area lost a bit of its enological shine. Still, some producers keep farming the precious Malvasia Puntinata, the vine that centuries ago made all the world crazy. This aromatic vine, characterized by an elegant bouquet of white fruits and herbs, is very fragile and requiring. Wines produced with 100% of Malviasia Puntinata are rather rare, and can reach a very high level of quality.
